"Why variable speed"

Many of our customers ask us "What are the advantages of variable speed?" It must be said that when you are working in most thicknesses of wood and plastics you will not need a variable speed machine.

Variable speed comes into its own when working with thin wood or plastics under 2mm thick and with metals. With thin wood and plastics it is only too easy to cut off part of your design as the machine cuts faster than your eyes can register changes in direction. When working with metals the blades overheat at full speed, even with coolant applied, thus shortening their life. Working with metals is a trade-off between speed of cutting and length of blade life. 700 to 900 strokes per minute is about right for most metals giving you reasonable cutting speed without a great number of blade changes.

The beauty of the HEGNER Speed Control is that it gives you an infinitely variable speed between 400 and 1440 strokes per minute and gives high torque over the full range - an essential feature for cutting metals.

The superior performance of the Variable Speed Machine over the Single Speed machine when tackling any of the above would make it a worthwhile option that need considering before you make your purchase. (You cannot add the variable speed later as the variable speed requires a different motor to the single speed.)
